It is imperative, should your student not be doing well, or in fact is failing a class after the first 9 weeks of the school year, that immediate intervention steps be taken by you to assist in the improvement of his or her grades. These steps include, but are not limited to: teacher conference meeting(s), monitoring agenda books for homework assignments and test dates, setting aside study time at home without the interruptions of cell phones, television, and/or computer usage, and outside or in-school tutoring. First 9 Weeks GradesWelcome to Lufkin Middle School and Team "E". It is the goal of all Team "E' teachers to see that your student realizes in a positive way the greatest of his or her potential in the classroom and with your assistance, I am sure we can meet that goal.
The first 9 weeks grading period of the 2009-2010 school year will finish on Friday, October 23, 2009 and the grades for this time period will be given to the student in their first period on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Should grade or conduct problems arise during this period of time, you will be contacted for a parent conference. Additionally, to parent conferences, for the benefit of each student, we will provide tutoring sessions from 8:00 am to 8:20 am each day. You can assist us in their progress at home in setting of quiet time periods for doing homework, studying for tests, and having additional tutoring by a family member. Again, we look forward to working with your student and you in making this a very successful year for the student. Time And Organization For Success At LMSIt is imperative that students utilize the available time and organization skills outside of LMS to be successful within LMS. Setting a regularly scheduled quiet time period to complete and check work is a top priority. Remember not completing homework because of outside sports activities, dance practice, church meetings. etcetera is not an acceptable excuse. Additionally, in the case of special assessments (projects), the creation of a timeline from start to completion is a must. Remember that starting and completing near to or on the due date will probably just meet the minimal project requirements, and as a result, may yield a grade no higher than a 70.
